Constant beauty, part one

Parti de casa da minha avó materna com a ideia fixa de encontrar uma quinta abandonada (ou assim eu pensava, depois vim a descobrir que ainda é habitada) que é visível pela auto-estrada a caminho de Abrantes, e que tem vindo a alimentar os meus sonhos fotográficos há muitas viagens de cá para lá. Meti-me pela estrada velha e, depois de ter percebido que não tinha encontrado o caminho certo, continuei em frente, certa de que chegaria a Constância, um daqueles sítios que vale sempre a pena visitar. Era dia de semana, e os muitos habitantes que saem para trabalhar noutras localidades ainda não tinham regressado. O silêncio fazia-se de luz dourada e era eu que já não queria ir-me embora.

I left my maternal grandmother's house with the fixed idea of finding an abandoned farm (or so I thought, later on I found out it's still inhabited) that is visible from the highway leading to Abrantes, and that has been fueling my photographic dreams for many trips from here to there. I got on the old road and, after realizing I haven't found out the right way to get there, I decided to continue on, sure that I would arrive in Constância, one of those places always worth visiting. It was a weekday, and the many inhabitants that leave to work on another towns had not yet returned. The silence was made of golden light and it was I that no longer wanted to go away.
